As a guy, I watched this when I was younger before getting married and felt the same way the reviewer does. Watching it again a few months ago, married, I totally understand why Amy is pissed. No real thought went into this gift.

The jewelry ending sucked though. Really should have had him give her a gift with some meaning for the storyline to land effectively.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5850664273561664009.post-79812479843576666332019-04-11T10:46:50.048-07:002019-04-11T10:46:50.048-07:00I know this post is years old, but I just re-watch...I know this post is years old, but I just re-watched this episode today, and I was so disgusted that I searched the internet for anyone who felt the same way I did. I am a married woman, and I totally agree with this review. I am all about practical gifts. I’ve been driving myself crazy wanting a dishwasher, and if my husband surprised me with one for our anniversary, I would bang him right there on the dishwasher. But every woman is different, and I understand wanting something a little more romantic and meaningful, but she couldn’t have acted more ungrateful for something that he was super excited about and put a lot of thought into… even though it was “wrong.” To be honest, it was less about the gift and more about the romanticism. She probably didn’t need anything like jewelry. She probably would’ve been happy with him planning out a romantic night. But like you said, it’s not like she got HIM anything… and she’s an ungrateful bitch. Just giggle at his cluelessness and move on.

Watching this show in adulthood, I’m realizing how much I hate Amy.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5850664273561664009.post-19658900542781178192015-09-19T23:00:52.575-07:002015-09-19T23:00:52.575-07:00Resulting in this classic gif when they realize Ha...Resulting in this classic gif when they realize Harley is within earshot.

^ they actually spliced that into a season 2 episode of GMW
Where they go to Feeny's backyardLoganKing95https://www.blogger.com/profile/17471971595683779652noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5850664273561664009.post-62869927318347953562015-06-25T19:16:22.250-07:002015-06-25T19:16:22.250-07:00"But like, imagine that you had kids and then..."But like, imagine that you had kids and then someone gave you kid clothes on your birthday. Honestly, the only jewelry and clothes that I like receiving are band t shirts and these awesome pokemon earrings that my friend sculpted for me because they had thought behind them and were things I truly enjoyed.
Also, for example, I love reading. Last Christmas one of my friends got me three of her favorite books and one got me a Barnes and Noble gift card. Another got me perfume. While the perfume was nice, the books and the gift card meant so much more to me.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5850664273561664009.post-29937917268095576122015-02-04T10:25:44.052-08:002015-02-04T10:25:44.052-08:00Okay, I'm girl. I HATE getting clothes, jewelr...Okay, I'm girl. I HATE getting clothes, jewelry, or anything like that as gifts. One part of the reason is because I am very, very picky and I like to pick out everything myself. Also I prefer to make most of my own stuff too (self-sufficiency and all that).
Also, a big problem I have with this; why is giving gifts the only way to appreciate someone? I despise materialism and the consumer-based society I live in. I would be honestly disturbed if the only way of showing appreciation by my partner was to give me a useless, shallow gift. We BOTH show appreciation to each other through meaningful interactions; spending time with one another, going places, not empty objects. And if I do get a gift I prefer something useful because I hate consumerist wastefulness.
Also the whole "women are shallow and love stupid, pretty things (omg clothes! shoes!1!) really pisses me off.
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5850664273561664009.post-90538610947219551712014-04-26T21:42:52.967-07:002014-04-26T21:42:52.967-07:00I'm usually pretty practical and like to get p...I'm usually pretty practical and like to get practical gifts, but it is nice, especially when you are in a relationship that lasts for years and years to get something nice but impractical, it doesn't have to be expensive, but something with a little thought behind it. Jewelery is maybe seemingly thoughtless, but finding the right jewelery isn't always easy. Seriously, I have trouble picking my own jewelery. Regardless, I understand the theme, I just don't like how it was resolved. I mean, jewelry is pretty much the most uninspired and thoughtless gift of all time.Seanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04773515281303659184noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5850664273561664009.post-16254103165338937722014-01-30T15:00:03.104-08:002014-01-30T15:00:03.104-08:00Aw a woman, I was going to explain about romantic ...Aw a woman, I was going to explain about romantic gifts and feeling appreciated, but it seems like the show did that and you still can't wrap your brain around it? I don't know if I can help.

But like, imagine that you had kids and then someone gave you kid clothes on your birthday. You'd be all, "this is great, but it's not for me. I would like something for me" A trash compactor is saying, "Here's some help cleaning up after our slovenly asses." It would be better to get a maid to come for a day because then she wouldn't have to do all the work for a period of time.
